Ikea Garage - Pt 1

DIY

Phew - this was a post that took me WAY TOO LONG to put together, so thanks so much for sticking with me!

You may have found my IKEA Hack mudroom/ garage though my viral TikTok video, or maybe on the recent feature in Apartment Therapy (!!) - however you found it, you know you need to recreate it and that is what this post is here to do!

So before we start getting into the step-by-step how to install, the absolute very first thing you need to do is head on over to the IKEA PAX planner tool to start your own custom design. This will help you easily create your shopping list without much hassle. This tool will add all those random parts to your cart so you don’t forget them (like hinges). If you haven’t already, watch this TikTok I created showing you how to use the planner, or follow the steps below.

Remember, IKEA will deliver everything for an added charge. 10/10 would recommend.

Step 1:
First, you’re going to work in your PAX planner. Go to design your own.

Step 2:
Add two (2) PAX wardrobes in whatever color or size fits yours space. Mine were white, 22 7/8D x 92 7/8H and the width that I chose is 39 3/8. You’re just going to drag and drop them right into your planner so it will now look like this.

Step 3:
Add your doors, mine are Bergsbo. Your hinges should be auto added to your cart at this time as well (which you can see at checkout).

Step 4:
Customize your interior with shelves, rods, drawers, etc. I do really love these big mesh drawers. I personally do not store any clothes or shoes in the garage long term, my system is more for garage storage like rags, tools, brooms, etc. but here is your chance to organize, my friend!

Step 5:
Just click add to cart and everything for the PAX portion of your project will be added directly to your cart.

Step 6:
Next we are going to add the 2 other pieces we need for our IKEA garage mudroom hack:
1. Hemnes TV Unit for the middle seat (i picked the one with the wood top)
2. Kallax shelf unit for the upper portion
3. (optional) We added trim from IKEA to the tops of the cabinets to make it look a bit more custom, this did add a bit of cost but we think it was worth it. Of course, not necessary!

That’s it! I know there have been a lot of supply issues at IKEA lately so hopefully you don’t have to wait too long for these items to come in stock.

Stay tuned, my next post will start to discuss how to actually install.

xo,
Jackie Dean
